Tłumacz literacki – w dobie kultury translacyjnej (etyka – historia – konteksty)
Celem projektu badawczego jest analiza sytuacji tłumacza literackiego z jej społecznym, politycznym i ideologicznym uwikłaniami w wymiarze diachronicznym i synchronicznym.
Zgodnie z najnowszym nurtem badań przekładoznawczych po cultural turn zmierzających do przedefiniowania pól badawczych w kierunku przestrzeni „otwartych”, tj. opisu tekstów w swoich kontekstach, których problematyzacja staje się podstawą do formułowania pewnych norm, proponowane badania sytuują się w obszarze refleksji nad diachronicznym wymiarem przekładu jako części składowej systemów literackich oraz nad kulturotwórczą rolą tłumaczy literackich. Odejście od samego tekstu na rzecz jego kontekstów w sposób naturalny naprowadza na kwestie recepcji przekładów, a w konsekwencji na socjologicznohistoryczne osadzenie praktyki przekładowej i poddanie analizie różnych – w tym biograficznych – uwarunkowań pracy tłumacza.
Poruszane zagadnienia plasują się w obrębie historii przekładu – kolejnego ważnego po zwrocie kulturowym obszaru eksploracji, z jednej strony, literatury tłumaczeniowej i jej roli w tworzeniu kanonu literatur przyswojonych, a z drugiej strony, historii losów tłumaczek i tłumaczy, których dzieje tworzą historię alternatywną wobec historii autorów dzieł oryginalnych.
W dalszej kolejności oznacza to przesunięcie w centrum rozważań zagadnień związanych ze społeczną rolą tłumaczy w mediacji międzykulturowej, rekonstrukcję dyskursów (kulturowych) determinujących ich działalność przekładową oraz złożone zależności kulturowe determinujące ich pracę, wreszcie zdefiniowanie pozycji, jaką zajmują oni między kulturami. Tak zakreślone badania wchodzą w zakres translator studies plasujących się na przecięciu zjawisk metaprzekładowych, biograficznych i historycznych, a także reception studies.
Literary Translator in the Age of Translation Culture (Ethics – History – Contexts)
The aim of this research project is to analyse the situation of a literary translator with their social, political and ideological entanglements in a diachronic and synchronic dimension.
According to the latest trend in translation studies after the cultural turn, which aims at redefining research fields towards ‚open’ spaces, i.e., the description of texts in their contexts, the problematisation of which becomes the basis for the formulation of certain norms, the proposed research is situated in the field of reflection on the diachronic dimension of translation as a component of literary systems and on the culture-forming role of literary translators. The departure from the text itself in favour of its contexts naturally leads to the issues of the reception of translations, and consequently to the sociological-historical setting of the translation practice and the analysis of various, including biographical, conditions of the translator’s work.
The issues dealt with are situated within the history of translation — another important area of exploration after the cultural turn, on the one hand the literature of translation and its role in the creation of the canon of assimilated literatures, and on the other, the history of the fate of translators and interpreters, whose history forms an alternative history to that of the authors of original works.
Subsequently, this means shifting to the centre of consideration the issues related to the social role of translators in intercultural mediation, reconstructing the (cultural) discourses that determine their translation activity and the complex cultural relationships that determine their work, and finally defining the position they occupy between cultures. Such research falls within the scope of translator studies, which is situated at the intersection of meta-translational, biographical and historical phenomena, as well as reception studies.
